Tip 1
Have you ever said, Because thats how we have always done it? Well, we have all heard
that the definition of insanity is to keep on doing the same things the same way, while
expecting different results. But that is not correct anymore. If you continue doing things
the same way, you will have different results and not good ones. Over time, you will have
less business and less profit because your competition is not standing still. Always seek
continuous improvement in your operations or you will quickly fall behind.
Tip 2
"The Service Department should be a relationship business, not a transactional
one. Too often, we look at the inexpensive oil change and because it is not a
big money maker, its true value is overlooked. The key to long term
profitability in the Service Department is retaining the customer throughout
the entire ownership cycle. Our efforts should always be focused on customer
retention. If our lackadaisical attitude toward an oil change (or anything
else, for that matter) causes the customer to go elsewhere, we will probably
lose them for future--and more profitable-- services as well."
